Loki on Disney+ Renewed for Second Season

On the same day that the finale of Disney+ breakout hit Loki premiered on Disney+, it was renewed for a second season.

Loki is the first of the scripted Marvel shows on Disney+ to be renewed.

The announcement was hidden in the end credits of the season finale (see below).


Loki stars Tom Hiddleston as Loki. The show is set in a Marvel Cinematic Universe-adjacent world, in which the God of Mischief is arrested by the TVA (Time Variance Authority) after absconding with the Tesseract, what they deem a Nexus event.

The show also stars Owen Wilson, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Sophia Di Martino, Wunmi Mosaku and Richard E. Grant.

Loki is directed by Kate Herron and Michael Waldron is head writer.


Other Marvel Shows

This is the third of Marvel’s scripted TV series to debut on Disney+. WandaVision was the first. The end of the show was deemed the series finale. We haven’t seen all of Wanda though. She will appear next in Marvel’s upcoming Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (set to debut March 2022).

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, was next. It has not officially been renewed but according to The Hollywood Reporter, Deadline and other sources the show is billed as an ongoing drama series.

The Loki finale set the stage for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Hiddleston is expected to return as Loki in this show with Dr. Strange. In addition, the show’s filane which could also lead to the storyline for the upcoming Spider-Man: Far From Home

Marvel’s next Disney+ series will be the animated What If … set to begin on August 11.  Hawkeye is due to debut in late 2021. Several other shows are still in development.
