2021 Oscar Nominations were announced Monday, February 15 and it was a great day for Disney’s various streaming efforts.
Hulu, owned by Disney, received a nomination for “The United States Vs. Billie Holiday”. This show shoacased the true story from the 1940s when Billie Holiday was targeted by the government in an effort to racialize the war on drugs. The show was directed by Lee Daniels and stared Andra Day. The Oscar nomination was for Andra Day in the category of Best Actress.
Disney Plus received its first ever Oscar nominations. The streaming service launched in 2019. The nominations were for best animated feature nods for “Onward” and “Soul,”. “Soul” also received nominations for best score and sound. “Mulan,” received nominations for costumes and visual effects.
“The One and Only Ivan” also received a nomination. “Nomadland,” which was produced by the Disney-owned Searchlight, is currently streaming on Hulu.
