Currently, California COVID-19 restrictions do not allow theme parks to reopen until the counties the parks reside in reach the lowest tier set forth by the California government.
This would mean that most theme parks, including Disneyland would remain closed for most likely, the majority of 2021 leaving thousands without jobs, guidance or answers.
Disney has found a way to use Disney California Adventure in a way that doesn’t violate restrictions, puts money in Disney’s pocket and brings around 1,000 workers back to the job.
Disney announced a new food and beverage festival, modified from their original festivals.
Details from Workers Union Local 50 a union representing a number of Disneyland employees state that the food festival will expand into Cars Land, Pacific Wharf, Pixar Pier and Grizzly Peak which allows for optimal social distancing, something very important to Disney during this time.
A facebook post from the union mentioned that “Six Market Place booths, operated by Festivals, are expected to open along the parade route.”
Here’s the update from the union:
For furloughed cast being recalled we have been informed that Food and Beverage operations will be expanding into Cars Land, Pacific Wharf, Pixar Pier and Grizzly Peak. Six Market Place booths, operated by Festivals, are expected to open along the parade route. The ticketed offering will include Buena Vista operations.Workers United Local 50
Furthermore, Disneyland Resort President Ken Potrock announced some details to Cast Members earlier this month:Currently planned to begin mid-March, we will debut an all-new, limited-time ticketed experience, focused on our world-famous food and beverage offerings from around the resort, the latest merchandise and unique, carefully crafted entertainment experiences…all to be offered multiple days a week. With limited capacity and enhanced health and safety measures in place, Guests once again will get to step into a magical Disney environment — an environment that will provide memorable and fun experiences our Guests are craving.Ken Potrock, Disneyland Resort President
Teams across the resort are currently developing this distinctly Disney experience, so there are many more details to come, but I wanted you – our Cast Members – to hear this news first. Stay tuned for the official announcement coming soon.
What I’m most thrilled about is that this initiative — along with the recent reopening of our outdoor dining on Buena Vista Street — enables us to bring about 1,000 Cast Members back to work. While that is clearly not all we want to accomplish, it’s a start.
Specific details regarding the types of food, the length of the festival and more have not been released by Disney yet. We do know that the event will be a celebration of California Adventure’s 20th anniversary so we expect new merch to be released for the festival along with the food booths. We also know that the event is slated to begin in Mid-March and will take place multiple days a week and will be an extra ticketed event.
Stay tuned for more information as it becomes available.
