Let’s get started.
Sweets and Libations
These are a few of our favorite things! There are a number of ways to spin this pairing and great options for helping out small businesses near you. Head over to your local brewery, winery or cidery. Pick up a variety pack that would pair well with your sweet of choice.
Next, head over to your local Girl Scout Cookie seller, candy shop, cookie shop or favorite local sweetshop and pair your libation selections with the perfect sweet treat. Have questions about what goes with what? You’re in luck, we have a fun blog post coming your way talking about pairings just like this. Perfect for a virtual get together or a fun Friday night. Need answers sooner? Ask your local business. They create the flavors and they know what goes together.
Here are a few examples of great pairings:
- Peanut Butter and Stout Beer
- Citrus and Hefeweizen Beer
- Caramel and Belgian Wit Beer
- Hazelnut and Chocolate with IPA or Brown Ale
- Dark Chocolate and Orange with IPA
- Dark Chocolate with Stout
- Dark Chocolate and Sea Salt with Porter
- Dark Chocolate and Merlot or Syrah Wine
- Chocolate and Cherry or Strawberries and Cabernet Wine
- White Chocolate and Sauvignon Blanc
- Citrus and Pinot Gris or Pinot Grigio
- Strawberries and Prosecco
- White Chocolate and Riesling
- Milk Chocolate and Pinot Noir
Those are some starting points for your pairings. Get wild with it, try different flavor combinations and even make a little scorecard for everyone to compare notes.
Make it Yourself Bakery
A lot of bakeries are offering fun kits that you can make at home. This allows you to get hands on with your own dessert. What a great date night or family night or even girls night idea.
Places like My Make Studio offer a variety of cupcake or cake DIY kits.
They send you everything you need to create fun and festive sweet creations right in your own home.
One Creative Cookie is another shop that offers people the chance to decorate their own delicious cookies. We love these ideas to get your sweet fix and support local businesses.
Take Out or Dine in With Your Favorite Local Restaurant
A lot of people aren’t comfortable with or even able to dine out right now. Well, as someone who worked in hospitality for a decade I can tell you, this weekend is typically crazy at restaurants. Many places are really relying on guests this weekend to help their books.
Contact your favorite local spot and see if they are doing a take out special for Valentine’s Day. Some places are even doing greenhouse or igloo dining where you can enjoy a heated private meal under the stars. What a unique experience.
Those are some of our tideas to support local this weekend. Others of course include purchasing your flowers from local florists, your sweets from local bakeries and your gufts from small shops.
It’s more important than ever to support our local small businesses. Share the love this weekend and do just that.
