Let’s jump in!

Formal Dining Room

One of the only understated places that we decorate is our buffet in our formal dining room. This is one of my favorite spaces because I absolutely love this nativity scene. the figures are wooden figures from Willow Tree. These can be found in a number of places and one of them is Amazon. They don’t have the entire collection but you can get a feel for these gorgeous pieces and how you can begin or expand your collection.

I include some beautiful and rustic lanters with woodsy candles and garland. I just love the earthy beauty of this scene and changing it up a bit each year.

In addition, we include a garland cross that I embellished with some fitting pieces to hang from the wall beside the buffet.

Also in our formal dining room is one of my most treasured possessions. My grandfather made this curio cabinet for my grandmother to house her collectibles and when they passed it was, along with the recipes inside, what I took to remember them and bring them into our home.

It is such a special piece and I like to add just a couple of my grandmother’s items to warm my heart and feel close to them this time of year. The library was a piece she had every year in their living room. It sat on a little coffee table every year since as far back as I can remember. I surround it with “snow” and a little bear that I actually gave her when I was little. It was something that she held dear in her last few months and it means a lot to me to have it on her cabinet for the holidays.

We have a snowman scene that was made from a tomato cage on one end of the room along with a wooden mailbox that was used for our wedding on the other. I add lights and snow and little birds to give it that festive touch and although we rarely use this room, it is one of my favorites this time of year.

Living Room

Every year, as mentioned in part 1 of this series, we collect a Disney holiday figurine. This one with Mickey and Minnie trimming the tree in their jammies is so adorable. This year I included a Christmas sweater clad Eeyore (I couldn’t resist picking him up in the parks last year).

The mantle. The focal point of Christmas… besdies the tree. Our mantle is backlit by a giant picture window which provides a lot of natural light and a lot of bad lighting for photos. But, at night, we light up the garland and our mantle turns into Main Street USA at Walt Disney World. This is where we house many of our Disney figurines that we collect and also our Mickey and Minnie stocking holders and stockings.

The “Fun” Tree

I’m a big fan of two trees. In fact, I’m jockeying for a third and next year, it’s going to happen. But, for now, we have two. And the second tree is the “fun” tree.

This is where we put our sentimental ornaments. Ornaments from our trips, special family heirlooms and ornaments we share with friends.

This is the special tree. I’m so in love with it and the story each ornament tells.

From our first time at Disney’s private island Castaway Cay
From our stay at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort. This is an actual gingerbread cookie that has weathered three Christmases
This was found among my Grandparents ornaments!
From my time as an intern for a U.S. Senator in Washington D.C.
My Grandma always decked her tree with these gorgeous vintage ornaments and we kept one for ours.
Each year we get a family ornament like this for our little fam.
Our annual Walt Disney World ornament

I hope that you have enjoyed this tour of our holiday decked halls. It is one of my favorite things to decorate our house. I am not known as someone who is subtle and my decorating, especially at Christmas reflects that.

I don’t believe in creating just a beautiful space. I also believe in creating a meaningful space. Will our home ever be featured in a fancy magazine for the holidays? No. But it’s warm, it’s full of memories and it’s inviting and it’s us. It’s a reflection of our families, our history and of our life. That’s what Christmas is about. That’s what Christmas decorating should be about.

From our home and our family to yours. Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas. We wish you a blessed end of the year and the gift of remembering the true spirit of the holidays. Giving, family and making memories.
