The Walt Disney Company Investor Call: What’s Coming for Star Wars

Disney held their investor call on December 10. A plethora of information regarding future projects for the company were discussed. The call was mainly focused on entertainment and Disney’s streaming service. A number of Star Wars projects were announced and we are going to cover all of those here.

There are a lot of them so let’s jump right in.

A new original series set within the same timeframe of the current Disney+ hit, The Mandalorian is set to debut on Disney+ called Rangers of the New Republic.

A second project called Ahsoka will also be set within the timeline of The Mandalorian is coming to Disney+. This series will star Rosario Dawson.

THE MANDALORIAN, season two

These two shows will both be spinoffs from the breakout hit The Mandalorian. Both shows will be executive produced by Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau. The shows will crossover with The Mandalorian to tie the storylines together, and will culminate in a “climactic story event.” Not much is known about these two new projects but we do know they are defined as “limited series”.

Lucasfilm boss Kathleen Kennedy announced she expects one of these two series to hit next Christmas on Disney+. That’s also when she said The Mandalorian will launch its own Season 3.

Kennedy also gave insight into the new Rogue One spinoff coming to Disney+.  Andor will center around Diego Luna’s Rebel character Cassian Andor. Production began for this series in London two weeks ago.

“Everything I did, I did for the Rebellion.” Andor, an Original Series set in the Star Wars universe, will stream in 2022 on Disney+. The rumors of Hayden Christensen reprising his role as Darth Vader are true! He will be joining Ewan McGregor in the series OBI-WAN KENOBI. The Original Series begins 10 years after the dramatic events of Revenge of the Sith, and is coming to #DisneyPlus.

Star Wars: The Bad Batch, an all-new animated Original Series from Lucasfilm Animation will be coming soon exclusively to Disney’s streaming service.

The Bad Batch “follows the elite and experimental clones of the Bad Batch as they find their way in a rapidly changing galaxy in the immediate aftermath of the Clone War. Members of Bad Batch — a unique squad of clones who vary genetically from their brothers in the Clone Army — each possess a singular exceptional skill which makes them extraordinarily effective soldiers and a formidable crew. In the post-Clone War era, they will take on daring mercenary missions as they struggle to stay afloat and find new purpose.”

The show will be “Giving new and existing fans the final chapter of Star Wars: The Clone Wars has been our honor at Disney Plus, and we are overjoyed by the global response to this landmark series,” said Agnes Chu, senior vice president of content at Disney Plus in July. “While The Clone Wars may have come to its conclusion, our partnership with the groundbreaking storytellers and artists at Lucasfilm Animation is only beginning. We are thrilled to bring Dave Filoni’s vision to life through the next adventures of the Bad Batch.”

Star Wars: Visions, an Original Series of animated short films, celebrates the Star Wars galaxy through the lens of the world’s best Japanese anime creators. This series is coming in 2021 to Disney+.

Lando Calrissian, who is a guest on The Mandalorian will return in Lando, a brand new event series coming excusively to Disney+. This project is still in early stages of development.

Leslye Headland will be bringing a new Star Wars series to Disney+. The Acolyte is a mystery-thriller that will transport viewers into the a galaxy of sercrets and emerging dark-side powers during the final days of the High Republic era.

Lucasfilm Animation is teaming up with Lucasfilm’s visual effects team, Industrial Light & Magic, to develop a special Star Wars adventure series for Disney+. A Droid Story will be an epic journey to a new hero guided by R2-D2 and C-3PO.

“As we continue to develop new stories, the intersection of animation of visual effects, offers new opportunities for us to explore,” Kennedy said (via Deadline). “This epic journey will introduce is to new hero guided by our most iconic duo… on a secret mission known only to them. What could possibly go wrong?”

Willow, an Original Series from Lucasfilm starring Warwick Davis, with the pilot directed by Jon Chu will debut on Disney+ in 2022.

Last but certainly not least, a brand-new Star Wars feature with acclaimed filmmaker Taika Waititi is in development. Get ready for an unforgettable ride.
