Disney Parks Chairman Josh D’Amaro Said That the Park Reservation System Will be Sticking Around Domestically and Internationally.
Disney Parks, Experiences, and Products Chairman Josh D’Amaro spoke with Roger Dow, President and CEO of the US Travel Association about the reopening of Disney theme parks around the world. The two discussed a number of topics including safety, technology and the travel industry.
D’Amaro said that reopening Disney theme parks is based on 5 elements. The first is health and wellness. Disney has addressed this through temperature checks, requirements of guests and cast members wearing face coverings, reservations for park visits with limited attendance, and physical distancing.
The second element is cleaning and disinfecting, especially in high touch areas. The third of the five elements is technology solutions. This is accomplished through mobile apps and cashless payments to reduce contact. The fourth element is cast member training and employee safety. The fifth and final element of the reopening process is working together both on the cast member and guest level.
The two discussed a number of topics in regards to technology that Disney has implemented to help them navigate the troubled waters of the pandemic.
D’Amaro discussed a variety of technologies that Disney has put in place including Mobile Order, contactless menus (via the My Disney Experience App) and the brand bew Disney Park Pass reservation system. The Disney Park Pass reservation system requires all guests to reserve a visit to the theme parks ahead of their arrival. The reservation system is intended to help Disney World limit the amount of guests who are able to visit the parks and encourage physical distancing.
D’Amaro thinks that it, coupled with the other technologies that have been put in place, is something that will be around after the pandemic is behind us. Disney is currently accepting Disney Park Pass reservations through September 26, 2021.
The technology doesn’t only help us during a time of a pandemic, but I also think it actually leads to a better cast and guest experience. So these are things that are helping us now, but I think they’re here to stay.Josh D’Amaro
The Disney Park Pass reservation system is not ideal for many park goers and with the elimination of park hopping for the time being it has caused a strain for fans who frequent the parks. However, Disney has recently opened up a number of additional reservation slots to Annual Passholders making it easier and more likely they will snag even a last minute slot at hte park of their choice.
Stay tuned for more information as it becomes available.
