On the morning of May 27, The Walt Disney company presented their reopening plans to the Florida Economic Task Force. Jim MacPhee, the Senior Vice President of Operations represented The Walt Disney Company as part of the May 27 meeting.

Disney proposed a phased reopening of parks that included opening two parks on July 11 and two parks on July 15. Learn more HERE!

In terms of social distance guidelines: Here is what we learned:

Disney will require face coverings for all guests and castmembers inside their parks and property. Disney is looking at putting in place a relaxed zone that allows guests to remove their masks for a short period of time in order to get a break from that requirement in the Florida heat and humidity.

Disney will be putting up barriers to faciliate physical distancing and there will be a significant reduction in overall capacity enabling physical distancing. Disney did not announce an exact number of guests that will be allowed into the parks.

For attractions, food and beverage and retail spaces capacity will also be limited. Disney has QR code capability and is looking at adding that to contactless ordering but they are looking more favorably at increasing the already existing mobile ordering system.

Disney already has strict cleaning and sanitation guidelines but will build on those existing standards of cleaning. There will be more frequent protocols both on stage for guests and backstage for castmembers to ensure frequent sanitization.

Disney will also implement temperature screenings similar to what has been done at Disney Springs for both guests and castmembers.

There will be enhancements to contact operations within the parks. A temporary pause on character meet and greets and play areas will be put in place to reduce contact and limit gatherings in those areas. There will also be a temporary suspension on parades, fireworks and other events that creates and encourages large crowds to congreagate.

Disney is working to implement more mobile ordering at dining locations as well and an increase in the presence of plexiglass barriers will be found in high contact locations.

Castmembers will be trained to operate in this new environment and Disney will incrseas communication to guests prior to they arrive sot hey are prepared for the cahnges prior to entering the parks.

Disney Presentation to Orlando Economic Recovery Task Force

Something brand new that we learned with these proposals for reopening. A pre-arrival theme park reservation system will significantly reduce overall capacity of parks including restaurants, retail transportation and the entire Disney experience and will be required for all guests looking to enter the theme parks. Disney will be releasing more information on this development and we will report it here on our blog as we learn more!

Know before you go communication to educate guests prior to entering Disney property will be frequent. Communication will be sent out via the My Disney Experience app, there will be frequent communication of new policies and procedures during the resevation process, communication will be relayed to guests once onsight and continued communication throughout their travel and time on property.

Guests will be reminided of safety protocols as they enter property and as they continue through the parks.

Disney will also be deploying the Social Distance Squad as they have at Disney Springs. This group of castmembers is committed to engaging and inspiring guests to stick to social distnacing requirements. Encouraging appropriate physical distancing requirements and inspiring guests to follow these rules for the betterment of everyone’s experience.

Disney proposed a reopening date of phased reopening of Theme Parks beginning with Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom on July 11.

Epcot and Hollywood studios will open on Wednesday, July 15.

Disney Springs reopened with third-party businesses on May 20 and May 27 marked the day Disney owned businesses opened their doors.
