96As we reported previously, all Disney parks worldwide are now officially closed. Walt Disney World has closed its doors for only the 8th time in the parks history. This closure will mark the longest time Disneyland and Disney World have ever closed to the public. All Disney resorts are also closed and will remain closed.

According to Disney officials, Disney has just announced that the closures of Disneyland, Disneyland Resorts, Disney California Adventure, the four Disney World theme parks and Walt Disney World Resorts have been extended “until further notice” due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

39“As a result of this unprecedented pandemic and in line with direction provided by health experts and government officials, Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort will remain closed until further notice,” Disney said in a statement posted to Twitter.

Disney’s California theme parks closed on March 14, Disneyland resorts and Downtown Disney closed on March 17 and initially planned to remain closed through the end of the March.

10 Disney’s Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Disney’s Animal Kingdom theme parks in Walt Disney World closed on March 15 with Disney’s Florida resorts closing on March 20.

In regards to Disney continuing to pay their employees, “The Walt Disney Company has been paying its cast members since the closure of the parks, and in light of this ongoing and increasingly complex crisis, we have made the decision to extend paying hourly parks and resorts cast members through April 18,” Disney said in a statement posted to Twitter.

64Reports show that the closures are costing The Walt Disney Company as much as if not more than $20 million for every day the doors don’t open.

While California is under a lockdown to stop the spread of the deadly virus, Florida’s Governor has declined to issue such an order drawing extensive criticism from health experts and others.

Here is the full statement from Disney:

While there is still much uncertainty with respect to the impacts of COVID-19, the safety and well-being of our guests and employees remains The Walt Disney Company’s top priority.
