Welcome to For Love of the Mouse. We are so excited that you stopped by. On our blog, we cover all things Disney and beyond. Come for the Disney, stay for the lifestyle, health, beauty and more! Be sure to follow us on Instagram at ForLoveOfMouse, on Facebook at For The Love of The Mouse and on YouTube at For Love of The Mouse. Let’s get started!
We go to Disney a lot and I thought it would be fun to share with you some of the things I have to take on every Disney vacation to make sure our vacation runs smoothly and a few things that are just too great to not take on every trip.
Let’s get started.
Yep, you knew that was coming. We cannot stress this enough. Bring a water bottle with you. Water is expensive in Disney and those little cups you can ask for do not keep us hydrated. We recently purchased a new water bottle that will fit in my smaller backpack for the days or nights that I don’t want to carry around our large park backpack so now we can be sure to have our water with us at all times!
A Magic Band is a must for any trip to Walt Disney World.
If you aren’t familiar with the Magic of a Magic Band. Guests can link a credit card to their band to pay for things quickly and without digging for a card or cash. Magic Bands are also your room key so every guest who is staying on property, gets a “free” Magic Band, and as mentioned above, can soon request and pay for an upgraded Magic Band with a cute design.
Magic Bands also hold Fast Passes. When you book your Fast Passes, they are automatically uploaded onto your Magic Band and you simply scan it as you walk into the queue for the ride.
Your band also holds your Photo Pass shots. After you take Photo pass photos, a castmember will scan you Magic Band and you can then access all of your photos via the My Disney Experience app.
If you are on the Disney Dining Plan, that will also be kept on your Magic Band so you just scan and go but of course, don’t forget to tip.
I am beyond obsessed with these shimmery beauties. I have several pairs and I wear them all the time in the parks. These are so lightweight and so comfortable. I am able to wear these for a full park day. That’s a 10 to 12 hours day in these sparkly shoes. Bibbidi Bobbidi Bling has a wide array of these glitter sneakers available; everything from rainbow (next on my list to purchase), white, gold, black, navy, hot pink and more.
I cannot recommend these highly enough. I get compliments every time that I wear these and people are constantly asking me where I got them. These are a showstopper and perfect for any park outfit.
These pills are lifesavers if you travel by plane often or aren’t used to the humidity of Florida. If you have never taken a water pill, they are an over the counter pill that works to flush the kidneys of excessive bloat and salt.
Whenever I get off a plane, my fingers swell up like sausages and I just feel blah and sluggish. This happens to me when we are in humid places as well. Water pills are a great solution for me because I drink more water than the average person anyway so it is no problem for me to continue that with the water pills, which is necessary for them to be effective.
Disney has switched to paper straws and while we applaud Disney for getting rid of the plastic straws, we would love to see all of Disney move in the direction that many restaurants in Disney Springs and offer the biodegradable agave straws instead of the paper that disinigrate quickly.
We have taken to bringing our own straws for our beverages which works great. We purchased these silicone straws with their own little holder to keep them from gathering gunk if they were just thrown willy nilly into the backpack.
In addition, we also got these bamboo straws when we purchased our travel cutlery (more on that later). Both work great, the bamboo are sturdier so it is really about what you prefer. These are cheap and reusable and helps us all to do our part with single use plastics and it’s better than the paper straws! Win win!
Side note, you can also purchase the agave straws that are disposable and like we mentioned, if you would prefer to bring a stack of those that you can just toss with your beverage. Toss them in one of these reusable and multi-purpose sandwich bags to keep them fresh and clean before use.
Whether you wear eyeglasses or sunglasses in Disney, don’t forget the lens wipes. I am a big fan of lens wipes and found these that work really well and are biodegradable. I have to clean my glasses several times a day so these are perfect for me and help to keep things clear so I don’t miss a detail in Disney.
There is a lot of walking in Disney. We all know this and if you didn’t know that, you soon will learn. This is the way. There are a lot of things you can do to save your tootsies in Disney. Rotate between a few different pairs of shoes, get good tennis shoes, I love Sanuk sandals but I also wear Old Navy sandals so I am NOT the expert in comfy Disney footwear but I will say this; Moleskin is a lifesaver.
It is really not a matter of if you get a blister, more of a matter of when and if your foot is rubbing weird or you have a blister or just a painful spot on your foot, slap some moleskin on it and thank me later.
We always take Moleskin with us for every Disney trip and if you are checking a bag, take scissors as well because that stuff doesn’t tear easily and scissors will save you (just remember you can’t take scissors in a carry-on so be sure it is in your checked luggage.
Gamechanger. We carry a fuel rod around and we also carry the charger linked above in the backpack at all times. We take so many photos and are always putting new things on our Instagram story and what not that it really drains your phone battery. In addition, sometimes we both have to do work and make sure we are checking emails and such so having a portable charger is perfect.
We aren’t trying to find a plug in and chained to a wall which is no fun and we can just go about our day while our phones juices. It’s perfect. Worth every penny.
Gotta have it. True lifesaver. I put this on my arms and thighs every. single. day in Disney. Your girl is a weightlifter who likes cake and it is miserable when your legs chafe or for me, my arms do as well right near my sports bra or on the underside of my arm. It is horrible. I put it on everyday and I also keep it in my backpack, particularly on the summer months.
I cannot stress enough how important this is to my Disney life.
Pump Bottle of Liquid Soap
We are not a fan of bar soap and although we are constantly looking for new ways to reduce our footprint we have to take liquid soap on trips. Disney is full of people, and some of those people don’t wash their hands and sneeze on you and that bar soap just doesn’t cut it for us. A bottle of soap will set you back $1 at a store and if you don’t use it all, lock it and bring it home with you.
The absolute best hand sanitizer is from Grove.co and is the hydrating hand sanitizer that smells like blood orange. We go through some much of it, about one bottle per trip.
We have a whole blog post dedicated to how we are reducing our environmental footprint when traveling and one of our top tricks for that is reusable bamboo cutlery.
We love the festivals but it really does create a lot of waste with the number of single use utensils that are used so we picked up these bamboo cutlery. Inside each pouch is a knife, fork, spoon and straw. Each item is made of bamboo and perfect for travel and eating on the go. In our resort is a little container of dish soap (deluxe resorts but you can purchase it at other resorts as well) and each evening I wash the cutlery for the next day.
These wonderful little travel pouches are perfect for us. We can travel from booth to booth, sampling different items and cut back on our waste by bringing our own cutlery.
They are the latest in warm weather fashion. These neck fans are amazing in the heat of Florida. We love them. We charge them each night and just toss them in the backpack. Just be careful when they are jostled around because the lights can get flipped on and that can drain the battery.
Those are the items that we can’t go to Disney without. We hope you got a couple of ideas for items for your next trip.
Thank you for stopping by and for the love of the mouse, never forget, that it all started with a mouse.
