Julie Walters, who played Molly Weasley in the famed “Harry Potter” series recently revealed to BBC that back in 2018 she received a diagnosis of stage 3 bowel cancer.
Although Walters did communicate the diagnosis to close family and friends; she made the decision to not reveal or discuss the cancer publicly. Until now.
As a result of the cancer, Walters had part of her colon removed and underwent chemotherapy. She has recovered from bowel cancer and is blessed to be cancer free at this time.
Walters is an Academy Award-nominated actress who, beisdes her famous character in the “Harry Potter” series is also known for her roles in “Billy Elliot” and “Mamma Mia.”
Walters will also star in the upcoming “The Secret Garden,” film which is set to premiere this spring. “The Secret Garden” could be Walters final role of her film career but she has stated to BBC that she is open to the possibility of postponing her retirement for the right role.
In addition to her film roles, Julie Walters is now an advocate for encouraging others to be screened for bowel cancer. Bowel cancer is the third most common cancer diagnosis in the United States and United Kingdom. The American Cancer Society estimates that more than 100,000 people in the U.S. will be diagnosed with bowel cancer this year.
