The My Disney Experience isn’t without its kinks but with millions accessing various parts of the app to make day-of changes or to start planning their vacation, it works well. Everything is right at your fingertips from Fast Pass, to dining reservations, unlocking your resort room, checking in, Photopass and more, it’s a organized travelers dream… well, it was.
Disney recently updated their Fast Pass system at Walt Disney World and we have to say, it’s quite the disappointment. One of the biggest downfalls for the guest of this updated (and downgraded) app is Fast Pass.
Previously, if you booked a Fast Pass, and needed or wanted to modify it, other attractions that were available at a similar time would pop up as well. For example, if you booked Space Mountain at 4:00 p.m. but wanted to modify it to an earlier time, you could click on that Fast Pass and click modify and other Space Mountain Fast Pass times, if available would pop up, but in addition, other attractions and times for those would pop up as well so you could modify a Space Mountain Fast Pass to a Haunted Mansion Fast Pass at 11:00 a.m. instead if you wanted.
Now, with the updates, when you click “Change” only other options for that attraction that you are modiyfing pop up. We can’t think of a logical reason that Disney would think that this is better but that’s where we are. We’re bitter about it. Mostly because until our recent trip in December, we had no idea that this was the case. Many times we will book what is available because our trips aren’t always booked 30 or 60 days out so attractions like Slinky Dog Dash, Avatar Flight of Passage and Big Thunder Mountain aren’t always available so we will snag a Fast Pass and attempt to modify it closer to our trip.
A few upgrades on the app that we are a fan of is the addition of new Mobile Ordering options throughout the parks and resorts and of course the boarding groups for the Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance attraction. While some have voiced their displeasure for the boarding group option and would apparently prefer to stand in line for a ride for upwards or six to ten hours, the boarding groups are genius and we will go into more depth on that subject in a separate blog post so stay tuned for that.
As for the Fast Pass downgrades on the app, we believe that Disney may be in the process of moving toward a pay system for Fast Pass similar to that in Disneyland so this could be a temporary change to the Fast Pass program in Walt Disney World. Stay tuned.
Thank you for stopping by and for the love of the mouse, never forget, that it all started with a mouse.
