During Monday Night Football (MNF), Lucas Films released the final trailer for the final installment of The Skywalker Saga. In a genius marketing move, tickets also went on sale for the opening night of the final film in this epic and iconic film series.
The trailer debuted during halftime of the MNF game between the New England Patriots and the New York Jets.
The ninth installment of The Skywalker Saga hits theaters on December 20. This highly anticipated film has Star Wars fans old and new abuzz with anticipation, excitement and nostalgia as the series a generation has grown up with comes to an end.
Disney is hoping that this film lands among the highest grossing films of all time to send out this saga in style.
The first film in the this current trilogy, “The Force Awakens” brought in more than $2 billion worldwide. The second film, “The Last Jedi” brought in more than $1.3 billion worldwide. Lucas Films is hoping that this film tops both of those and land among the top grossing films of all time; Avengers: Endgame and Avatar.
Four of the 20 highest grossing films of all time came in the last year including the new king of the box office, Avengers: Endgame which topped Avatar following a re-release and ended up grossing $2.79 billion.
All “Star Wars” films, including the “The Rise of Skywalker,” will eventually appear on Disney+, the company’s upcoming streaming service set to debut on November 12th. Disney is planning multiple “Star Wars” series for the platform, including “The Mandalorian,” as well as new films exploring fresh characters.
As we all could have guessed, the release of the final trailer for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker shook social media. Multiple sources reported receiving over half a million views of the trailer within minutes of its release.
To no one’s surprise, the release of the trailer lit up social media with the Disney Studios account registering a half a million views within minutes of the trailer’s release.
In addition, presale tickets for this film, outsold that of Avengers: Endgame within the first hour of sales on Atom tickets. According to CNBC, ““Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” sold 45% more tickets during its first hour of presales on Atom Tickets than “Avengers: Endgame” did during its first hour earlier this year.”
The film opens everywhere on December 20 and is open in limited release on December 19. Tickets are going fast, stay tuned to see if Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker breaks more records ahead of hitting the theaters.
