Rarely does Disney Parks Blog or any other Disney social platform take the the time to dispel rumors regarding attractions or any other aspect of The Walt Disney Company but today was a bird of a different color.
Recently, a rumor began circulating that the fate of one of Walt Disney World’s oldest and beloved attractions. The Enchanted Tiki Room. This attraction, which is also at Tokyo Disney and Disneyland in California was the first in the world to feature audio-animatronic technology. Now sponsored by the Dole Food Company, it was sponsored by United Airlines for its first twelve years.
Originally separated from the rest of Disneyland due to the fact that Walt Disney personally owned the attraction himself instead of WED Enterprises now the Walt Disney Company. Walt’s initial vision was for the Enchanted Tiki Room to be a restaurant featuring the audio-animatronic birds surrounding and serenading guests as they dined in a tropical paradise.
As one of the attractions imagineered in part, by Walt Disney himself it is hard to believe that Disney would choose to reimagine it (again) at a time when throwback attractions and nostalgia throughout Walt Disney World is in vogue.
In addition, Disney recently released an entire set of apparel and merchandise themed towards the Enchanted Tiki Room complete with spirit jersey and fashionable dress. To come out with a line of merchandise for something you are looking to replace doesn’t fall in line with Disney’s typical strategic marketing plan from an outsider’s perspective.
Well, Disney Parks Blog put the rumors to rest with a blog post on June 26 even getting a little puny (haha) with a jab at the source of the rumors saying, “While “toucan” play at that game, we deal in facts here at the Disney Parks Blog.” Disney Parks Blog, home to trusted and official news about Disney (their words and ours), assured fans that the Enchanted Tiki Room would continue to delight and entertain guests of all ages for years to come, just as it has done since 1971.
Also of note is the statement saying, “Although we won’t address every rumor” which is most likely a nod to another rumor surround the replacement of Country Bears Jamboree with a Toy Story themed overlay. Disney has not and it seems will not be addressing that rumor in the near future although from our unofficial standpoint, we believe that rumor to be unlikely as there is already a Toy Story themed attraction in Magic Kingdom in Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin over in Tomorrowland and an entire land dedicated to the Toy Story franchise in Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
If we do receive news regarding that or any other major overlays or attractions, they are likely to come at D23 which will take place in Anaheim California this August.
Thank you for stopping by and for the love of the mouse, never forget that it all started with a mouse.
