Welcome to another episode of Cooking With Crystal. We’re doing big things over here. We’re gonna be big. On today’s episode we’re making brown butter blondies and just to get a little extra up in here, we are going to throw in some caramel M&M’s.
I love to bake and I love to create new things so I created these blondies but wanted to switch things up a bit so I decided to use brown butter.
If you have never used or made brown butter no worries, it is super simple. It requires a little patience and a watchful eye but nothing to be afraid of.
Here’s what you will need for these blondies:
- 1 stick plus 2 tablespoons butter melted until brown
- 1 large egg, at room temperature
- 1 cup dark brown sugar, packed
- 2 teaspoon’s vanilla
- 1 cup flour not packed
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1.5 cup M&M’s
First things first, we have to tackle the brown butter.
Get your sauce pan, get your butter and turn on your stove to medium heat.
You want to fully melt your butter and then stir occasionally to keep it from burning.
Keep an eye on your butter and stir until it becomes a deep brown color.
It will get a delicious nutty smell and it also develops this incredible rich, nutty flavor that adds an incredible depth to anything you add it to.
Once your have your brown butter remove it from the heat and stir in your one cup of dark brown sugar.
Stir until smooth, add in your vanilla and then add your egg (my photo shows two eggs because I actually doubled this recipe for what I was doing).
After that is all combined, add your flour. It will get very thick but keep with it and work those biceps.
Last but not least, stir in your M&M’s.
Next, take your 8×8 pan, (I used a larger pan because again, I doubled it). Spray thoroughly with baking spray and dump your batter into the pan. Use a spatula or your fingers to press the dough into an even layer. Be sure those M&M’s are evenly dispersed.
Next, bake at 350 degrees for 17-20 minutes or until your toothpick comes out clean.
Voila! As simple as that. These are a crowd pleaser and a very tasty treat!
Thank you for stopping by and for the love of the mouse, never forget, that it all started with a mouse.
