The Disney Wonder, sister ship to the Disney Magic, will be getting something of a face lift during a 14 day gap in the schedule beginning September 16. The changes will debut on the four-night sailing from Vancouver to San Diego that begins on September 30, 2019.
Before we get into the changes coming to the Disney Wonder, let’s talk about some Wonder-ful facts. The Disney Wonder is 984 feet long compared to the Disney Dream which is 1,115 feet in length.
The Wonder has eleven public decks and can accommodate up to 2,400 passengers in 875 passenger cabins. The crew on the Wonder is around 950 strong. It cost approximately $900 million to build the ship.
Each ship on the Disney Cruise Line has a unique statue in the lobby atrium. The statue on the Disney Wonder is Ariel from The Little Mermaid.
Characters decorate the stern and the bow of each ship and the Wonder is no exception. The Stern is home to Donald Duck and the Bow has Steamboat Willie.
The Maiden Voyage of the Wonder was on August 15, 1999. Since 2015 she sails various North American itineraries seasonally and in September 2018, Disney cruise line announced the Disney Wonder’s home port will be in New Orleans, Louisiana beginning in 2020.
Now, onto the changes coming to The Disney Wonder!
A New Orleans French Quarter themed lounge is coming to the Disney Wonder. The lounge will include live themed music and activities that are fun for the whole family. This won’t be the only Louisiana themed aspect of the Wonder as this ship is also home to Tiana’s Place which is a part of the ship’s rotational dining.
This experience will give guests a feel of a casual outdoor space in the heart of New Orleans. According to Disney, the décor and design will highlight authentic touches like “wrought-iron balconies, classic brick walls and shutter-framed windows.” Also, don’t miss the life size trolley car!
The lounge will be open throughout the day hosting activities like trivia and meet and greet opportunities during the day and at night the space transforms into a swinging jazz bar with fun specialty cocktails and a whimsical atmosphere.
A big shout out to one of our favorite YouTubers covering all things Disney, especially Disney Cruise and their amazing life in Alaska, LeggLife for these awesome photos from Tiana’s Place on the Disney Wonder. Be sure to check them out!
In addition to the new lounge, Vibe Lounge which is the area for teens ages 14-17 will get an update as well. The space will transform into a new trendy hang out area with a coffee bar and what Disney is vaguely describing as “updated virtual reality technology” that will include games and activities for teens.
One last update to report is that Cove Café, the adults only coffee shop is going to be redesigned and will now be home to a “warm, comfortable and trendy” atmosphere. Cove Cafe is a popular spot for all coffee lovers and features amazing coffee drinks including mochas, lattes, alcoholic treats, frappes and cold brew. A must try for sure!
