Disneyland is getting even more Marvel-ous. See what I did there? You laughed. It’s fine. Tips are always appreciated.
Disney California Adventure already has one Marvel-based attraction in the park, and that’s the amazing Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission BREAKOUT! However, Disney is adding to that with even more Marvel themed attractions and experiences to the park.
A Bug’s Land recently closed in Disney California Adventure, paving the way for the future home of the new Marvel Super Heroes Land. Construction walls are already up in the area and work is underway by Stark Industries of course.
Although unconfirmed by Disney, the former space used for “It’s Tough to Be a Bug” will be reimagined into a Spider-Man attraction. The attraction is to be a screen-based ride, most likely 3-D and it is rumored to be similar imagineering to Toy Story Mania though we expect recent patent’s Disney filed that would simulate the swinging that Spider-Man does to be incorporated. The ride would have screens all around and also on the floor, providing more of an interactive and immersive feel to the experience.
This new super hero land will welcome the Worldwide Engineering Brigade (WEB), where characters such as Peter Parker will recruit and train up the next legion of heroes.
According to Scot Drake, creative executive at Walt Disney Imagineering’s Global Marvel Portfolio, guests will be able to weave their own heroic paths through an “immersive, interactive experience” coming to the park, using a blend of a “cutting-edge interface” and “practical effects.”
Not only will the new experiences and interactive Marvel land be epic but the park will launch with a debut project featuring a new, upgraded Spider-Man suit.
An interactive Avengers section of the land will be put in place in between Spider Man and Mission Breakout. This part of the land will include restaurants and shops from all aspects of the Marvel Universe.
In addition, a Dr. Strange entertainment show and a Quinjet coaster are also in the works for this Marvel-ous land (I had to do it again). The Quinjet coaster is not expected to be completed with Phase 1.
Rumor has it, an Ant Man themed microbrewery and an additional quick service location will also be incorporated as renderings indicate as much.
What is the timeline for this new land? Phase 1 is expected to be complete and open in 2020 though a more precise timeline has not been released. This land will work to offset the incredible crowds that will still be streaming in for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge though as mentioned in our article relating to the possibility of a fifth gate for Walt Disney World, such logic is flawed as this land will bring in new crowds of its own as well.
One thing from the rendering that we are still awaiting news on is Black Panther. Our fingers are crossed for a mind blowing attraction but it could also be a restaurant (lame) or additional interactive experience. Stay tuned for details on that as they become available.
Disney has yet to announce an opening date but teases, “recruitment will begin soon.”
Thank you for stopping by and for the love of the mouse, never forget that it all started with a mouse.
