Wow! There are so many crazy cool things coming to Walt Disney World to enhance your next Walt Disney World vacation and we are covering them all so let’s jump right in.
Disney is not playing around. It has been one awesome announcement after another.
We all love a good Disney villain right! Well, Disney has announced a new series of Disney After Hours events that will invade Magic Kingdom on select nights this summer between June 6 and August 8. Hades and Meg from “Hercules” as well as Maleficent, The Queen, Jafar and Dr. Facilier will take over the Cinderella’s Castle in an exclusive production for this event.
One of the most exciting aspects of this limited ticket event will be that Maleficent the Dragon, Festival of Fantasy parade, will be making special appearances at this event. Disney also says there will be villains-inspired enhancements at Pirates of the Caribbean and Space Mountain attractions plus themed food, beverage and merchandise during After Hours. We expect these to be similar overlays to those from the 2018 Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party.
Something really important to note, that have some Disnerds scratching their heads is that there will be no character meet and greets available which is a huge bummer in my humble opinion I was really hoping to meet some unique villains!
One reason we can think of for this decision by Disney is that this event is going to be a hot ticket and it may turn some people away that there are not going to be characters available. At most extra ticketed events, one of the biggest draws to the whole event is character meet and greets and rare characters so Disney may be trying to draw attention to other aspects of Magic Kingdom beyond the characters.
Most attractions will be open and because this is a limited ticket event, wait times will be extremely short for attractions. At the after hours event we attended at Magic Kingdom, wait time for Seven Dwarfs was only about 15 minutes. During Moonlight Magic at Hollywood Studios we only waited about 15 minutes for Slinky Dog Dash.
Ticket holders can get in at 7 p.m. Ice cream novelties, popcorn and select bottled beverages are also included in the cost of admission.
Tickets are $139 in advance and $144 on event nights. Walt Disney World annual passholders and Disney Vacation Club members get $30 discounts. Tickets for the villains version of After Hours event nights will go on sale April 29 (exact dates of the events have not yet been shared).
Coming to the Magic Kingdom this spring is a new photo pass opportunity after everyone’s favorite happy haunt. Beginning April 2, Haunted Mansion will feature a doom buggy photo pass. This will be the 13th attraction at WDW to include this type of photo.
According to Disney Parks Blog, To preview, purchase and download this attraction photo, you must be wearing a MagicBand or MagicBand 2 Icon in a MagicKeeper that’s linked to your Disney account. Your photo will be automatically linked to your account, where it can be previewed at Disneyworld.com/PhotoPass or in the My Disney Experience app.
To celebrate the launch of this 13th photo pass attraction, on April 13 Disney will be offering a few special opportunities around the Haunted Mansion at Magic Kingdom Park. Details to come. Be sure to share your Doom Buggy photo pass photos on social media with the hashtag #HauntedPhotoPass
