Disney is expensive. But, there are a lot of things you can take advantage of at Walt Disney World that won’t cost you extra money. From transportation to entertainment, here is your guide to the freebies in WDW.
Disney’s Magical Express.
Did you know that when you book a stay at a Walt Disney World Resort you can add Disney’s Magical Express to your trip for no additional cost? It’s true! Once you have your fight booked, you can visit the Walt Disney World website to get your Magical Express booked. This is a great service provided by Disney, it is certainly not the fastest way to get to your resort and get your Disney experience started but it is a great experience and we absolutely love using this service.
Monorail and Boats.
It does not cost anything to hop on the Monorail, the Ferry Boats or the Friendship Boats. You can hop a Monorail and zip around the Monorail Resorts, Epcot and Magic Kingdom, there are great photo opportunities here and you can also take the Ferry Boat and the Friendship boats to the various resorts surrounding Magic Kingdom and Epcot. We love grabbing a Monorail from the Transportation and Ticket Center to either Magic Kingdom or Grand Floridian, hop on a Friendship Boat and head over to the Polynesian, and the Contemporary or hop a boat from Magic Kingdom to Wilderness Lodge. This leads us to our next freebie tip!
Resort hopping is free and absolutely one of our favorite things to do. On my upcoming trip with my mom, we are spending our first day in Disney, resort hopping! We are not staying at a Monorail Resort but instead are staying at Port Orleans Riverside. We are going to spend some time exploring our own resort, which will be my first time to this resort.
After that, we are going to head over to the Transportation and Ticket Center (TTC) and hop on either the Monorail or the Ferry Boat and hit up Grand Floridian, where we will explore the grounds and explore this amazingly beautiful resort. We will also head to Polynesian Resort and Contemporary Resort as well as Wilderness Lodge, we will take a boat to at least one of these and Monorail to the rest.
You can also head over to the Boardwalk resorts, Beach Club, Yacht Club, Swan and Dolphin and Boardwalk. There are beaches and so many great places to check out at these resorts and on the Boardwalk in general.
Animal Kingdom Lodge is another great destination for resort hopping. There are so many wonderful things to see and do at Animal Kingdom Lodge. You can watch the animals on the savana and you can also take a behind the scenes tours where you can meet with a cultural ambassador who will guide you on a tour of Boma and Jiko.
There is a lot to do in Disney Springs but there are event some free stuff you can get into including live music, samples from Ghiradelli and sometimes Sprinkles, legos for days at the Lego store where adults and kids can probably spend hours playing with the legos in every color imaginable. The Disney Photo Pass Studio is also in Disney Springs. You can stop in and a Photo Pass photographer will help you to select the perfect portrait for you! This photo will link up to your Magic Band and the My Disney Experience app.
Chip and Dale Camp Fire Sing A Long and Movie at Wilderness Lodge.
The fact that this is free is amazing and quite honestly, a lot of people don’t even know about it. You can head over to Wilderness Lodge every night and join Chip and Dale for a free campfire extravaganza complete with s’mores and a sing a long. Following that, you can enjoy a Disney movie under the stars in the same space. It’s truly a must do and it makes it that much more special that it doesn’t cost extra and don’t forget, it is offered every night.
You can see the fireworks from several great spots at various Monorail resorts. From the marina area in front of Gasparilla Island Grill at The Grand Floridian you can actually sit on the patio tables and have a perfect view of the fireworks. In addition, this is one of the few locations where you can see much of the castle so you can see more of the show.
You can head over to the Polynesian and watch from the beaches as well. There is a beach near where you get off the Friendship boat and you have a great view of the fireworks from there.
Are you celebrating an engagement? Birthday? Anniversary? Or any other occasion? You can get buttons at any of the resort guest services and also at any of the park guest services. Birthday buttons are the best! Castmembers are constantly telling you “Happy Birthday” and it is such a fun experience. So whether you are celebrating your first trip, tenth trip, birthday, engagement, anniversary or whatever else make sure you grab your button!
