I love Animal Kingdom. I have always loved Animal Kingdom but with the addition of Pandora an also the Rivers of Light water show, you can now make a full day out of Animal Kingdom.
On our 60 hours of Disney trip, we rope dropped Animal Kingdom so that we could try to walk on for flight of passage. That was cute, that we thought that we could do that. As we were standing in a line, we thought the line was to get into Pandora. Nope. The line was for flight of passage. We knew that we were coming back in just a few weeks for another trip and we had fast passes for flight of passage on that trip so we skipped out of the line and walked onto Na’vi river journey.
You have probably heard some mixed reviews about Na’vi river journey and I get where those negative reviews are coming from but I will tell you that I loved this ride because I appreciate it for what it is. It isn’t a thrilling ride; it isn’t flight of passage. But it is a beautifully crafted, detailed and amazing ride. If you can snag a fast pass for flight of passage, do it. If you can’t, I will never recommend anyone wait in a two and a half hour line for a three minute ride but that’s just me.
So, you are at Animal Kingdom for an entire day, how do you plan your day? Let me walk you through what we did, would do again, would pass up and would never do without!
Have breakfast at Tusker House. You will need a reservation for this and these reservations go fast so I recommend scheduling this reservation as early as possible. This is a character breakfast and if you have checked out our previous blog posts you know that I love Tusker House. The buffet is one of the best on property in my opinion and I love the characters. You have safari Mickey, Donald, Daisy and Goofy. It truly is one of the best character experiences on property.
Next Kilamanjaro Safari’s. You will never get the same experience twice on this. I recommend this as an early morning or evening experience (not dark, just later in the day). The animals are more active and you will get to see a lot more.
Finding Nemo live show. Hubby and I typically trade off if we do the Lion Kig live show or the Finding Nemo live show. Both are really good and we really love going to both but rarely do we do both on the same trip.
Pandora. This is a given. The newest and most popular attraction at Walt Disney World currently, you certainly don’t want to miss this. Even if you are unable to get a fast pass for flight of passage, Pandora is a jaw dropping visual experience.
The details that were put into this land are unbelievable. Stay tuned for a future blog post on the magic of Pandora. Na’vi river journey is amazing as well, although overshadowed by the awesomeness hat is flight of passage, I recommend both (just get a fast pass, don’t wait in that line). Be sure to stop at Satuli Canteen. Healthy and tasty this is a great option for lunch, dinner or snack.
Tiffins. Animal Kingdom’s first signature dining experience, we have an entire post dedicated to this restaurant so be sure to check that out. This is an incredible restaurant, especially if you are on the dining plan. It is certainly pricey but if you are able to snag a reservation with the deluxe dining plan, do it.
Expedition Everest. This iconic ride is a must do for any trip to Animal Kingdom. When constructing this ride, Disney Imagineers traveled to the actual Mount Everest to gain inspiration. A truly magical experience and now with the addition of Pandora to Animal Kingdom, it is easier to hitch ride to the highest mountain in the world!
Rivers of Light. When Disney set out to provide nighttime entertainment at Animal Kingdom, they know that it would have to be innovative ad different from the spectacular fireworks shows that are put on at the other parks. With the animals on property, such loud noises and flashes of light would create stress an anxiety among them and could be catastrophic for their health and well being.
I will tell you. Rivers of Light i spectacular. The message, the story, the effects, the amazing use of the lagoon and of the light structures used. It is a must see. A nighttime spectacular that is up to the challenge of competing with Happily Ever After at Magic Kingdom and IllumiNations at Epcot. I have not experienced Star Wars, a Galactic Spectacular yet. Definitely add Rivers of Light to your itinerary at Animal Kingdom.
Last but not least, be sure to also head back over to Pandora for the nighttime transformation in that magical land. The lighting creates an entirely new experience from what you get during the daytime. Be sure not to leave the park without taking a wander through Pandora at night.
That’s it for this post. I hope you enjoyed our must-do’s for Disney’s Animal Kingdom. We absolutely love Animal Kingdom and we hope that you can visit and appreciate it for what it is and the differences that it has from the other Disney Parks. Walt Disney was a voice for the animals and loved to document and provide a voice for them. That lives on in Animal Kingdom. We’ll see ya’ real soon Disney family and for the love of the mouse, never forget, that it all started with a mouse.
